Good question I suppose,
@pierre_rochard do you have a link for the man?4 replies 0 retweets 5 likes -

I'll attempt it in brief. Bitcoin's protocol is set in stone and cannot be changed. However you can ADD more rules with soft forks. Nodes keep everyone honest, including miners, by acting as consumers of blocks obeying only the rules the accept. Miners supply blocks.

Bizarre statement right after saying Bitcoin’s protocol is set in stone. What stone is it set in? Answer: the white paper.

But your answer is ridiculous. The whitepaper has no connection to the Bitcoin network, it's just a document. The protocol is live, being enforced by nodes, baked into the Genesis block. If you try to change existing rules, you WILL be rejected and fork off.

Come on, John. The paper was created to explain the function of the network. It’s fine that you disagree with it & that BTC has changed the way signatures work on blocks, but it’s unfair to say the white paper has “no connection.” There’s a reason that sentiment caused many forks

It was created to explain what was being created, it has no effect on the network.

Obviously consensus can be reached to move away from the paper, but that’s also something built into the paper. I liken it to a constitution. It even has parameters for growth and upgrades. Why not just add an amendment explaining Segwit, LN and digital gold use case?
