Other times, a company has an affiliate program and doesn't even realize that there's a "marketing agency" doing this.
Their job is finding good affiliate rate, YouTubers, then negotiating a horrible deal and skimming what's left, paying the employee in sales commission.

A company like or hires a company like for marketing, who then get people in developing countries to work for the equivalent of under $6k a year IF they can retain a quota of getting YouTubers to do ad reads

So - How about taking creator's ad revenue from their content in 2022 that didn't link off-site, and apply it to their "badge" or "tick" this year to ensure verification and prioritization?
As they could upload it to YouTube shorts/community instead and be paid. 🤷🏻♂️

I had to drive 35 minutes to pee in a cup so I could continue receiving the lowest prescribable dose of clonazepam that I've taken daily for 12 years. I had to pay for the drug test.

It's also worth noting that, while I've never signed one, some companies have agreements that forbid you from saying anything bad about the brand.
It seems innocuous at the time. But a year later when the company does something sketchy, you have to keep your mouth shut.

My point is that a lot of smaller YouTube channels and content creators that will be defending the Waves subscription-only move or staying silent could be intimidated by an aggressive company known for petty litigation. And they're not wrong to be. Don't take it out on them.

In 11/2021 I released a 'various music gadgets' video that was briefly critical of the Waves NX headphone tracker.
They hunted down my order info, got my # (required for FedEx/UPS shipping), and repeatedly called my personal cell phone to try to talk me into removing the video.

Software company subscribers are typically valued at 3x that of traditional license holding customers when calculating the company's valuation.
With the exception of monopolies (Microsoft, Adobe, etc), moving to sub-only often means "please aquire us, we're bleeding capital".

Musicians, consider this. If you sign up for the trial and a year down the road even if you only used one plugin in the bundle, you'll have to resubscribe to access your own session without compromising it.
The "all or nothing" subscription model is absolute trash.

I loathe TikTok. The algorithm seems to consistently provide a "1 step forward, 9 steps backwards" effect when any creator attempts to correct misinformation while paying creators close to nothing.
What I loathe WAY more than TikTok is the US government banning an app.

is withholding and treating income as royalties, and didn't bother sending a 1099 at all.
