So when you see a VPN ad read on YouTube, a lot of times there's a whole cycle of underpaid labor that neither the VPN company nor the YouTuber knows about.
Other times, a company has an affiliate program and doesn't even realize that there's a "marketing agency" doing this.
Their job is finding good affiliate rate, YouTubers, then negotiating a horrible deal and skimming what's left, paying the employee in sales commission.
for marketing, who then get people in developing countries to work for the equivalent of under $6k a year IF they can retain a quota of getting YouTubers to do ad reads
- How about taking creator's ad revenue from their content in 2022 that didn't link off-site, and apply it to their "badge" or "tick" this year to ensure verification and prioritization?
As they could upload it to YouTube shorts/community instead and be paid. 🤷🏻♂️
2/2 - But that's the handshake - We provide content and trackable data, Twitter uses that data with partners and shows ads to our audience.
Twitter achieved profitability in the past with this arrangement.
Why tf would you now pay for the privilege of providing free content?🤦🏻♂️
If you're a creator, here's something I hope you consider before paying for Twitter Blue:
We've been paid nothing by Twitter. Not a penny. This video's performance would earn about $410 on my YouTube channel. I have no idea how to monetize text, but it certainly has value. 1/2
Starting April 15th, only verified accounts will be eligible to be in For You recommendations.
The is the only realistic way to address advanced AI bot swarms taking over. It is otherwise a hopeless losing battle.
Voting in polls will require verification for same reason.
I will literally drink 2 gallons of water the morning of weigh-in to get to 200lbs so the boxing commission qualifies me as heavyweight.
You can cut weight and I'll still box you 10 rounds at a 50lb disadvantage.
I had to drive 35 minutes to pee in a cup so I could continue receiving the lowest prescribable dose of clonazepam that I've taken daily for 12 years. I had to pay for the drug test.
I passed 5 gun stores and 2 schools on the way there. Extended mags, AR-15s, no permit required.
It's also worth noting that, while I've never signed one, some companies have agreements that forbid you from saying anything bad about the brand.
It seems innocuous at the time. But a year later when the company does something sketchy, you have to keep your mouth shut.
My point is that a lot of smaller YouTube channels and content creators that will be defending the Waves subscription-only move or staying silent could be intimidated by an aggressive company known for petty litigation. And they're not wrong to be. Don't take it out on them.
In 11/2021 I released a 'various music gadgets' video that was briefly critical of the Waves NX headphone tracker.
They hunted down my order info, got my # (required for FedEx/UPS shipping), and repeatedly called my personal cell phone to try to talk me into removing the video.
Software company subscribers are typically valued at 3x that of traditional license holding customers when calculating the company's valuation.
With the exception of monopolies (Microsoft, Adobe, etc), moving to sub-only often means "please aquire us, we're bleeding capital".
Musicians, consider this. If you sign up for the trial and a year down the road even if you only used one plugin in the bundle, you'll have to resubscribe to access your own session without compromising it.
The "all or nothing" subscription model is absolute trash.

FYI if you ever have pesky protestors in a public park their tax dollars paid for, you could simply claim that it's "booby trapped" and charge anyone who enters it with criminal trespassing + domestic terrorism.
It's incredible to me how anyone can justify banning so many private decisions between doctors and patients after running and delivering on a campaign to make sure firearms can be available without filling out a form in his state.
It'd be interesting to see if old independently owned bookstores like this could survive as non-profit media archives instead of just turning into abandoned buildings or T-Mobile stores or whatever.
For those interested in recycled vinyl in the south, this place has thousands of old and weird records for sale (and books too, of course). I kind of want to just sit on the shop floor and go down the rabbit hole for a day.
"The community has rallied around us," Dunford said. "It has been a life-affirming and faith-restoring experience. I can say with confidence we will be here through the summer and hopefully much longer." https://mdjonline.com/news/community-rallies-around-marietta-book-nook-to-keep-it-open/article_adb6d954-c2ac-11ed-9c5c-a77810ce4c38.html?utm_campaign=blox&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social…
I loathe TikTok. The algorithm seems to consistently provide a "1 step forward, 9 steps backwards" effect when any creator attempts to correct misinformation while paying creators close to nothing.
What I loathe WAY more than TikTok is the US government banning an app.
This actually works! If a cop ever pulls you over, tell them that THEY have to go to jail and they will handcuff themselves and put themselves in the back of their own car.
I feel like selling out over a dozen vinyl pressings with my music and then pulling the plug on it all due to environmental concerns makes this one of the few takes I'm actually qualified to have. 😂💸♻️
When I pay an experienced CPA who specializes in freelance, the result is always:
"They need to correct this, but I don't know who you'd contact. Just estimate what you owe for now and maybe you'll be able to clear it up later."
