Great review of 3 books on future of work by Jane Humphries& “way we organize work&life, people&communities, will need to change...All will depend on whether we can marshal a coordinated response to a problem born of our own creativity”

People in the United States and China are much more worried about losing their jobs than their Swedish and German counterparts. One cannot escape the feeling that health insurance and the welfare state play a role here. Might also shape attitudes towards automation...

Lots of interesting discussions & questions came up from this. There are too many to reply to all, but I'm reading them all & will try to answer in future articles & visualizations in the coming weeks/months (so thank you!) Short thread looks at a few points: 1/

A waitlist to “check out” an *ebook* is some incredible late capitalism intellectual property law craziness.

I'm seeing this tweet pop up a lot on my timeline & it's making me wince. Women were absolutely a large percentage of the labour force in textile production in medieval Europe, but this tweet (& lots of the replies to it) present a v. skewed take on their role.

Inspiring. Every little girl should dream of growing her small business into a billion dollar portfolio, and also of being the daughter of the klepto President of Angola
