Omg not the 'idea landlord' thing again, also they're saying this to a writer? Whose books are earning pretty good money? Not a representative of Disney?pic.twitter.com/e1yADTqHWc

Silvia brought up the very good point that she would be real unhappy if something she publishes gets adapted into a Netflix thing in 30 years with actors in brownface. Weirdos who have never accomplished a single thing as a creative in their lives probably don't understand though
I'm also confused by the 'derivative works should be legal instantly'. People can... come up with their own ideas? Why is it so important that they can make derivative stuff immediately. Just write your own thing? It's not that hard?
Taking “living in my head rent free” literally
I'm much more swayed towards the idea that people should have easy and free access to the cultural works that their parents grew up with, for cultural legibility. Capitalism is obviously just the problem though, and particularly the structure of payment for creative work.
What if we simply didn't just starve our artists regardless?
everyone has their own solution to the copyright issue, none of them really cover all grounds and make everyone happy (though I'm ok w/ most solutions that make CEOs unhappy), but 5 years? don't most series take longer to write than five years??
Imagine if someone's writing a book and they end up taking an extra year to write the finale of their trilogy and OOPS the series falls out of copyright
Copyright law is bad because of Disney, not because of individual creators having control over their ideas Under capitalism the idea landlord person is very wrong
“Don’t collect rent on my thoughts!” - Wants to collect rent on author’s ideas
