This is the #1 reason Microsoft patches take a long time, trying to prevent issues like this.

Create patch too fast + miss critical bugs = undermine the confidence in patches + increase window of exposure for already-patched issues = worms

Yep, too fast depends on the severity/complexity of the fix.

Application compatibility & performance degradation are 2 things that often slow down both patch development & then patch deployment even after the patch is released. There's more that they (Microsoft) can tell you about variant investigation, breadth & depth testing, etc.
