For sure -- Extincting a shitload of other species via avoidable climate change is ethically horrible and is happening now - and breathing pollution sucks -- but none of this justifies false claims of existential risk....

It baffles me ongoingly, but a bunch of smart, concerned people seem to genuinely believe that climate change poses an existential risk to humanity. WTF.

There are gonna to be real existential risks emerging in the next decades -- like synthetic-bio weapons designed by military AGIs -- let's hope they're not ignored due to "boy who cried wolf" phenomena triggered by fallacious worrying about existential risk from climate change

Don't get me wrong -- I want to see pollution eliminated and fossil fuels rapidly abandoned etc. -- but not because of fearing existential risk from climate change -- rather because destroying other species and making our air rancid to breathe are NOT GOOD...

I would venture to say that it's also existentially risky in that temp rise snowball effects into other areas that put people at risk of loss and thus more apt to engage in global conflict

The more careful thinkers on this say the existential risk comes from political instability/war that results from climate change. However yes, there is a lot of hysteria on this subject.

Well war resulting from instability resulting from climate change could be an existential risk, for sure. But then let's say that out like you did. The point is we're not all gonna actually fry to death -- but many people think we are.
