I always think planned obsolescence is a weird argument. Definitely a similar idea, but, that specific take on it feels off to me

I think it's cultural also: even in a world where we "buy for quality and longevity" we tend to not keep those items around truly forever

Can’t remember if I learned about it from that doco or somewhere else, but long ago marketing shifted to buying new things = happiness
