it becomes contradictory to be fully 'clean' in life: sweatshop polyester clothing adds microplastic fibers to the water every time you wash them; leather lasts for decades. but you're vegan. organic cotton is one of the least environmentally friendly materials we can make, etc

not sure what the answer is. on one hand it points to why everyone is always stressed about these things: you literally can't win. on the other, to say "you can't win" is to be nihilistic and drop out altogether. somewhere in the middle is "did you best, don't stress the rest"

there was, maybe it was a slate star codex post or something, one on the different meat choices re: suffering and the crossed irony of it: chickens suffer the most in how we raise them, cows suffer the least but the eco-friendliness is flipped. do we choose pain or environment?
