I often wonder which is a more energy efficient way to cover a dish I’m microwaving: paper towel or plate. The marginal energy cost of another dish in the dishwasher feels like it’d be smaller, but also paper towels are so inexpensive that I’m just not sure

in fact, most paper is. despite the stereotype of saving trees we really don't cut them exclusively for paper use, it's a lumber byproduct we have to put somewhere anyway (cellulose also ends up in food like burgers, chicken nuggets and ice cream as a cheap filler material)
