"Towards a political economy of enlightenment" drills down into spiritual work as a form of labour, and asks "who's paying" and what might be done to reduce the cost of enlightement as a social good http://files.howtolivewiki.com/.meditation_2015/towards%20a%20political%20economy%20of%20enlightenment.pdf … This is about the deep stuff, not just mindfulness.
Awesome, thanks! Do you feel like sitting practices inevitably lead to challenges that are difficult to work through without full-time attention? Or are there some that are beneficial on a yoga/tai-chi level

Just sitting makes it harder to do what movment does, and movement makes it harder to accomplish what sitting does.

Balance of both. T'ai Chi is meditation using movement. The health benefits are a side-effect, same as yoga.
