when I was a teen, MP3 players were brand new and google was relatively unknown. that was one of the first memories I have of obsessively reading reviews to comparison shop what was at that time a big purchase for me. in the end, after weeks, I burnt out and bought the first one

and now, many years and Barry Schwartz books later we can explain this choice burn out, this "analysis paralysis" as a catchy pop psych concept but I wonder if it isn't even deeper. after spending a decade of "optimizing" via life & career articles, mostly I just want to opt-out

and obviously I don't endorse them at all, but we can see why red-pilling and these increasingly bunkered-in ideologies are growing: the idea that you can just relax and join a hivemind and you don't have to think or worry about choosing stuff has got to be immense liberation
