The White Darkness: A Journey Across Antarctica – An absolutely insane story about exploration, and the meaning of insane yet somewhat arbitrary tasks. A very long read, but better than any book I've read in a long time https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2018/02/12/the-white-darkness …

Jerry And Marge Go Large – A story about a retired couple in Michigan who did some basic math to win a lot of money off the lottery. Wanted to pull my hair out at the people describing what they did as unfair https://highline.huffingtonpost.com/articles/en/lotto-winners/ …

Welcome to the Future Nauseous – A discussion of how we understand, adapt to, and digest the "future". Dark, but rings deeply true. Explicates a lot of half-formed thoughts I've had for a long time https://www.ribbonfarm.com/2012/05/09/welcome-to-the-future-nauseous/ …pic.twitter.com/wGGTDEq8jn

Wish he showed me more than just stating this as his qualification, I don’t know history enough to just get it 😬pic.twitter.com/vPVfZNXylO

Just looked and this wiki page seems to maybe give some insight into why 1500 might make sense https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_modern_period …
