(I had a few conversations with the author on Twitter, and he only seemed able to react to ideas that contradicted his thesis with insults and ad hominem attacks. That quality of reasoning is reflected in this piece, sadly.)

Why haven't newspapers tried to launch their own search engine or social media platform? This seems like basic competitive strategy 101.
