These are just examples of products where even big tech companies couldn’t compete with the already firmly established near-monopolies of other big tech companies. I see no startups referenced here (at least not post-2005 startups)

Google was vastly bigger than Facebook when Orkut was tried. The same for Microsoft and Bing.
