21% seems optimistic, I'd imagine becoming a "real" Briton in Hungary to be bordering on the impossible.

That is consistent with prior studies that show Central European notions of citizenship to be more based on biological & historical factors than in Western Europe.
-
Biological factors would mean that we nearly all share an ancestor if we go back far enough. History tells us that people have migrated, borders were flexible, nations have risen, fallen, been absorbed into empires: and cultures and beliefs have changed. They may be misinformed
-
We Europeans all have a common ancestor at least 1300 years back, but culture & socialisation are more important. We all trust our parents, peers & politicians more. Misinformed or no, we all act after them. The solution starts with respect for the views of the other.
-
Yep-Europeans also had come from and met with people of other continents.

We are all Africans

Your missing the historical context and even the rest of the conversation. Earliest homo sapiens found in Africa - and was a long time before they went anywhere else.
-
The statement "We are all Africans" implies heavily that we should feel a sense of kinship with Sub Saharan Africans due to our genetic history. In reality, the genetic distance between SSA and everyone else is so big that such statement is without weight.

Your headline is inflammatory. The question people were asked could be interpreted very differently. You are not being honest. I would interpret that question as "Does naturalisation automatically make someone a 'real' citizen?" Legally yes but sentimentally not necessarily.
-
No offence, but your interpretation is odd. "Can X become Y?" is clearly a different question from "Does X automatically become Y?"
-
Is it? There is a gap between the presentation of the results and the nature of the question along those lines. I think more people would say yes to 'can' than to 'does' -if you get my meaning. Recognising split between sentimental and bureaucratic elements of citizenship.

The difference is that in the UK politicians, media and the British Establishment in general, encourage immigrants to adopt Britishness at the expense of Englishness. They all then point the finger at the the English and bray "racist." Immigrants are weaponised against England.

Most interesting part of this is 'I don't know' results. Speaks a lot to the national character that 55% of Japanese are modest/humble & don't profess to 'know' or decide themselves how 'real' someone else's nationality is. Also no surprise 90% of US have a confident opinion
