All this means is they have a better tracking system. They've also cynically calculated that blocking cookies will remove competition who can't track as well as they can. Google is an ad company; they will do nothing to threaten their revenue stream.
Maybe, but I am more optimistic. One can be an ad company and still realize that surveillance tracking is bad.
Regardless of merit, I think it's worth underlining why those teeth bite. The fox is building a hen house.
