    Geo has been operating Mesa Verde all along. This move just cuts out the middle man. It’s a workaround to new California legislation that stops cities and counties from entering into any new contracts with ICE.

    A contract posted yesterday shows ICE will now contract directly with Geo Group to run the Mesa Verde detention center - citing “unusual and compelling urgency” after the city of McFarland ended their contract, forcing the facility to close March 19.

    So...Jill Abramson's book has finally hit bookstore shelves. A few weeks ago, reading a galley copy, I noticed an egregious error about my colleague . She tweeted it out, a shit storm followed, Abramson corrected the mistake.

    It's not good to find out the university sponsoring your visa and work permit is actually a sting operation run by ICE. It's worse when you find out you only have four days to leave the country or you'll be barred from coming back for 3+ years.
