i recommend also venturing outside your usual style when trying this new medium, mixing colors (both on and off canvas) is one of the greatest pleasures of physical painting. Make some gradients, make some textures~

Maybe considering using some tape for creating the lines and make them more straight ? :)

easy trick to make perfect clean lines with tape is a base layer of a clear medium ( or white for white canvas ) which will essentially clog up those small underflow places, then the color sits nicely on top of the tape only
