i played around with a few and with the exception of this one they were either fairly uninteresting or just looked random

I imagine this is your process: 1. Think of a shape 2. Repeat the shape 3. Move the shape from A to B, possibly through C, and D 4. Loop

sounds about right. finding an interesting phase relationship is in there somewhere too though!
