Good question! The dictionaries this is based on are the defaults that come with Linux, no idea of their provenance (maybe @kscanne knows?) but my guess is the Irish one is a long way from authoritative.
Looks like a package Alastair McKinstry put together a while ago: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iirish/2.0-25 … He has my spell checking word list included in the package, but isn't using it to generate /usr/share/dict/irish for some reason (which just has ~16k words on my system)
