Pre-baby: so much free time Month 1: feeding a baby is literally a full-time job Month 2: finding a groove, but still, so much nursing Month 3-4: truly the definition of *grind* to balance work with pumping/nursing and caring for baby Month 5-6: finally a groove plus free time

It truly can't be overstated how much time is devoted to nursing in the first six months of baby's life. (I really had no idea until I went through it!)pic.twitter.com/ayjIoyD2j3

If you look closely, you can literally see the amount of free time I have double (the amount of yellow in the fourth vs. fifth bar), which drove me to make this

Should have noted that this viz is super simplified to limit the number of categories shown, but so much more needs to happen in a day (like cooking, cleaning, eating, laundry, washing baby stuff, etc.) than is visible. All of this happens during free time or while watching baby.

Also do you fit cooking-cleaning-errands into your free time? Eating and showering? Paying bills? Is that sleep block uninterrupted? Personally I don’t think I had a single minute of free time for the first 5 years. There was always a chore backlog.
-
Yep, we've had a chore backlog since baby was born. I'm fortunate that my husband and I are on the same schedule and generally home at the same times so can tag-team dinner, eating, showering, and other life stuff; we just switch off watching baby. Sleep def gets interrupted!

I am proud of you making yourself still go to bed early after such little free time. Good for you! I am definitely guilty of staying up late and giving up sleep just for free time

-
Ha, I'm totally guilty too sometimes, but I'm one of those people who needs 7-8 hours of sleep to function well, so I try to prioritize it when I can! Not tonight, obviously

As a 7-months-pregnant with our first child woman, thank you for making this! Did you manage to get longer sleep in month 2 by feeding the baby bottles at night, or were they sleeping through at that point?
-
During month one, our baby needed to gain weight and our doctor had us feeding her every 2 hours during the day and every 3 hours at night, which meant waking her up several times to nurse. During month two, we got lucky and she started waking only once, then slept through
