This isn't an exaggeration. It's estimated that 300,000 Germans were denied visas during the Nazi years. Breckenridge Long, the virulent anti-semite in charge of US immigration policy in the 1930s-1940s, weaponized bureaucracy, including public charge, to stop immigrants.

DHS and EOIR failed to provided answers to serious concerns that and other groups have been raising for months. They did not know whether people who were too sick to attend their court hearings were provided with any medical treatment.

When asked about steps taken to protect asylum seekers returned to Nuevo Laredo, a CBP officer said, “All I do is turn them over to Mexican immigration.” There have been no efforts to track people who have been reported kidnapped and failed to attend their hearings.

Even though has tracked 816 reports of violence against asylum seekers in MPP, DHS continues to turn back asylum seekers to notoriously dangerous Nuevo Laredo, where asylum seekers are targeted for kidnappings with the complicity of Mexican migration officers.

EOIR did not know why cases are being heard at the Fort Worth Adjudication Center, which is completely shut off from public access, rather than any immigration court that the public can attend.

Yet they did not provide a way to make arrangements to observe in advance or suggest ways to avoid such misunderstandings in the future. Nor were they able to provide a reason for why the rooms built for merits hearings were small shipping containers with a capacity of 7 people.
