    After months in-the-know I’m still floored we get to do this. These fellows will be full time employees with a $70k salary and benefits. And we get to prove this “pipeline problem” dead wrong, by replacing the damn pipes!

    Another thing is to ask your potential manager for a list of people who work(ed) for them for you to talk with and then make your own list too. Their reaction to this request will say a lot and it's something I wish I had done with more jobs, esp as you get into more senior roles

    Some of my favorite takeaways: - Thinking about 'push' & 'pull' framework when considering opportunities - Focusing on the problems you want to solve as you navigate your career - Considering all the things you can negotiate beyond salary -

    If you think Upward, the coaching pilot to give journalists of color working in local news a leadership cohort, sounds like a great idea and want to fund it, get in touch. I'm thrilled that is funding my pilot as part of my fellowship. But there's more work to be done.

    Six rising leaders of color will focus on creating impact and culture change in their news organizations. Congrats to all those that will be working with RJI Fellow ! Can't wait to see what you all achieve!

    Thanks for all the well wishes. Both pets are home, highly medicated and doing fine. Stella (the cat) is very unhappy we had to bathe her twice to get all the lavender oil off…and she still smells like laundry.

    We rushed our dog to the vet this morning because he was severely bloated, and this afternoon our cat knocked over an essential oil dispenser then started foaming at the mouth… so now both pets are in the ER 🤦‍♀️(fortunately I think they’ll both be ok)
