What fields are you thinking of in particular ?

I’m partial to tech stuff, engineering, math etc. but the world needs all kinds of people that can code. Society needs a ton of new stuff built, having fresh perspectives on what and how to build that stuff is important.

I learned iOS development 2 years ago and I graduated with a social science/ sociology degree. I wonder a lot about what kind of place the industry has for someone with my kind of background
-
On the one hand I imagine my different background makes me stand out, but on the other I wonder whether my limited CS knowledge makes me a “liability” for companies.

"we need"; "the world needs"; "Society needs". What exactly does that mean? How do I check whether this need is true or not? How do I measure it? Given two options, how do I find out which one of them the world needs more?
-
Magic? There is no way to know IMO. Choose a problem that you are interested in and study it, find like minded people and get involved in the solution. If you can’t find people solving the problem in the way you think it should be solved build your own solution.

You’re making me feel better about my choice to study Math & Physics degree instead of CS. I’ve been learning dev in my free time but felt CS degree wouldn’t be interesting enough.
-
Awesome! Before we can have warp drives we need physicists that can code!

Except when they go to Apple, Google, Amazon etc job interviews and they’re handed a marker & whiteboard and asked to diagram out big O notation and whatever sort algorithm.

-
I know that’s common, but I never do that.
