Could it also be how the debate was watched. Many now can watch a show/debate/event through the internet.

Media consumption hasn't changed so much in the last 4 years that it would cause a 33% decline in tv ratings. No other program on TV that has reamained at a relatively constant popularity level has had such a rating drop. Not as many people cared
