so if you do say push rax push rbx push rcx that internally gets translated to mov [virtual_rsp - 8], rax mov [virtual_rsp - 16], rbx mov [virtual_rsp - 24], rcx ; remember that the virtual RSP has moved by 24 bytes

Speedrunners have reached the point of doing heap feng shui in Wind Waker to (IIUC) fragment the heap in a specific way, and thus make a malloc() of a game-blocking object fail. I love this scene.

I'm fairly certain I heard "Perishable by design, yet I persist" as the dying words of a random minion in Borderlands 3, and it's likely the most profound part of the game.

I saw a guy building a company today. No burnout. No all-nighters. No overnight success. He just sat there. Delivering value and charging a fair price for it. Like a psychopath.

this is just to say, well, it's not that writing safe C is impossible, it's very expensive, and few places can afford to

FYI the LLVM Developer’s Meeting has a great lineup of beginner tutorials this year. If you’re interested at all in compilers, or contributing to LLVM/Clang, I recommend checking them out. ()

I've posted this already (probably more than once) but this is one of my favorite debugging stories ever: "you know, the reason I can't figure out why it's breaking is I don't understand how it ever worked"

Here is a WILD particle physics fact: Steel that was made pre-atomic-bombs has a different makeup than steel made post-bombs since the air is a lil more radioactive now, so for some really sensitive physics detectors we literally need to use SALVAGED SUNKEN WWII BOAT PARTS
