Let's see if fsck can heal this Solaris machine or if I get to reinstall it from scratch. (Thanks to ILOMs I can do this from my desk.)

@bdha I have horror stories of corrupted zpool.cache files too. I don't know if you can boot a ZFS-root machine in that situation.

@thatcks I’ve been there. zpool.cache backups saved my ass.

@bdha Someday I have to explore all the mechanics of a ZFS root Illumos machine since we may wind up with them someday.

@thatcks I have a handful of OmniOS machines, and a dozen (soon to be four dozen) SmartOS. Dozen S10 with ZFS root.

@bdha Curious about the hw you're running omnios on?

@bdha Thanks. Looking to put a omnios box in for dev. RX200 sounds like a pretty decent box.

@gavinsandie I like them. Will be putting SmartOS (SDC) on 50 or so RX300s, too.

@bdha Sounds like a nice setup. SDC looks great. Been meaning to check out the trial.

@gavinsandie It’s pretty nice. We’re investing a lot in it.
