Illegal under the current zoning. 13.37 FAR in a 9 FAR max C1-8X district (and partially in a R8B district which allows only 4 FAR max with a strict height limit). I grew up across the street from this building and think it's very pretty :)https://twitter.com/PlanningAutumn/status/1482795273973907458?s=20&t=TIcSlVxUMRNukfYrMca--g …

You know what I'll just skip to the end: of the 32,453 buildings with some form of landmark protection (either a landmark themselves or in a historic district), 11,378 (35%) are overbuilt relative to zoning. And that's just looking at FAR, not setbacks, lot coverage, etc.

Idk who got the idea that these buildings are so nice we should ban them but that's what we did.

Gonna throw what may seem like a controversial idea out there but trust me it's just common sense: if you like certain buildings, you should like the legal regime that governed what buildings could look like when they were built.

"Old buildings are so much nicer than new ones. Everything built since 1961 has been some ugly glass dick serving only the super duper wealthy and they destroy more housing than they build." Hmmm well let's get our crack team of detectives on the case see if they can't solve it
