You know what I'll just skip to the end: of the 32,453 buildings with some form of landmark protection (either a landmark themselves or in a historic district), 11,378 (35%) are overbuilt relative to zoning. And that's just looking at FAR, not setbacks, lot coverage, etc.
Idk who got the idea that these buildings are so nice we should ban them but that's what we did.
Gonna throw what may seem like a controversial idea out there but trust me it's just common sense: if you like certain buildings, you should like the legal regime that governed what buildings could look like when they were built.
