BBEdit — which I use every day — was first released in 1992. Sometimes in tech, old means no longer relevant. But often, it means deep, rich, and featureful. In the long run, time is a good filter for value.

I've just found an Easter Egg in the "about" section of and it is very clever! “Unindicted Co-Conspirators”?! Also, the theme song is class! by Interröbang Cartel, the "-world's first and greatest international Internet punk band-"

  3. Hi everyone! 👋 BBEdit 13.5.7 is now shipping. This is a recommended update for all BBEdit 13.x customers. Change notes: Download: (And it's live in the Mac App Store, as well.)

  4. You don't have to have a paid license to participate; Free Mode is fine. If you have a subscription in the App Store that can get a little complicated, but I'm sure we can work something out. 6/6

  6. You won't have to do much: try out the new stuff, report anything that looks like a bug or misfeature, send in any requests for refinements to what's been added, and install beta updates when we roll them out. 4/n

I do all my single-article writing in BBEdit. Good old reliable huggable rock solid for ages BBEdit. That is how I want apps to work. I wrote a whole couple books in BBEdit...maybe I should just go back to it and do my page organizing in folders.

I am impressed. I set up an ssh connection to my server, and an ssh config file and can open and save my file to the server, securely, encrypted with an ssh key, no password A lovely simple authoring workflow. I added how to do it to the article

I hadn't realized BBEdit had a "Markdown cheat sheet" window. This is cool, I can never remember which way round links and images go.

I couldn't find a fast way to make a column of URLs clickable in Google Sheets, so I pasted them into , grep searched ^(.*?)$ and replaced with \1
. Preview in BBEdit->Select All->Copy->Paste into Sheets column. (If text color is wrong, "Reset".)💫

Today I thought, BBEdit MUST have a way to do multi-line grep so I can get rid of a varying number of unwanted lines. It does! Pattern Extensions! Use (?s) to allow the period to match a carriage return. I’m so happy I purchased - it has saved me so much time. Thank you !
