so americans are subsidising our drugs ? it wouldnt be that they are paying exhorbitantly for them to big Pharma then , and we are paying a fair price ? ~the drugs companies want a piece of it and the tories will let them siphon off taxpayers money.

The NHS budget is huge. There is a correspondingly huge risk of the worst kind of politicians engineering a new system which favours wealth extraction by hiking prices, reducing working conditions/wages, reducing level of service.

The point being that the drugs developed in US labs need to make enough to generate profit, and pay for the next invention. It's the same for pharma this side. Their R&D costs have to be covered and profits made. It's really all about balance I suppose
