My grandparents risked imprisonment by hiding their radio in a cupboard in which they listened each day to the news from London. That’s why I get just a little frustrated when I read or hear some call the BBC “state broadcasting” which it is not & never has been

I remember my grandfather turning the dial on his shortwave radio through bursts of sound & white noise until he found the BBC World Service because as a refugee first from the Nazis & then from the Communists in China he knew the value of news he could trust

No.10 says no apology for Boris Johnson’s false claim about Keir Starmer and Jimmy Savile. And it rejects any link between the claim and protestors targeting Keir Starmer. Not everyone agrees with that. 5 mins. Produced by Mary Fuller & Catherine Karelli.

What first attracted a Prime Minister fighting to save his political skin to the idea of linking his opponent to a serial paedophile ? A question I asked today's minister for defending Boris Johnson

Is the PM responsible for the mob which harassed Keir Starmer? Brendan Cox told ‘It’s very hard to draw a direct link. However it’s true if you inject poison into politics, that has a whole set of unintended consequences… that can lead to extremism & violence’

When your Head of Policy quits in protest at what you’ve said & your Chancellor refuses to back your words & 3 key aides resign that means many things. One thing it really does not show is that “the PM means business”

Imagine you'd read 2 weeks ago that an official report would conclude that inside Number 10 there had been a failure of standards the public had a right to expect, a failure of leadership & the police were investigating 12 parties. You'd think it was explosive. It still is
