Lots of companies do this. It’s not if something goes wrong their side but if they can’t get payment from you.

It ensures there’s no break in service (in this case, you don’t miss a copy of the magazine).

I get that, but this is a digital subscription. If they can't get payment they can switch it off instantly. A month in advance is nuts.

Ah, yes, a good point. A digital subscription makes less sense but maybe they just apply the same rules, whether digital or otherwise.
