How much longer will it be before Apple ditches Intel and runs Macs on its own processors? http://www.theverge.com/2017/2/1/14477268/apple-macbook-chip-rumor-sleep-mode …
You think the processor's holding back the RAM quota in Macs?

Apple told me this straight re: the MacBooks.
-
Yes, current CPUs only address 16GB unless RAM is higher voltage

That whole "you need 32Gb if you're a pro" thing... do not get me started.
-
Depends what kind of pro, obvs. Some do use 32 or more. They're not stupid or doing it to show off.
-
Well, if they've been using a Mac, they haven't been using 32Gb. So it's not "do use", really.
-
If they've been using a Mac*Book*. Even my five-year-old iMac has 24GB in it. "Pro" always meant desktop class
-
So they carry on using desktop. They couldn't do their work on a laptop before - they can't now. What's lost?
-
Their work moved on! Otherwise we'd all still be fine with Mac 128K. 16GB was enough to get by, now maybe isn't
-
But they can still get it. Just not in a laptop. And it's always been true that max performance = desktop
