@bazzacollins Can see your point, but I can't see the networks building new 2G infrastructure to fill the existing gaps. That would be daft.
There are big holes in the government's pledge to improve rural mobile coverage. No 3G/4G targets, for a start: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/smartphones/1000173/mobile-networks-told-to-improve-coverage-but-not-data …

@PaulOckenden True, but then why not include data as a coverage condition, like they do with the 3G/4G licences? -
@bazzacollins Because, in 2014/15, there's no need to? -
@bazzacollins Because the networks make £££ from data, so there's no point in (and no chance of) them installing data-less or data-poor kit. -
@PaulOckenden If that were true, the country would already be swimming in 4G. Both Vodafone and O2 have missed previous 3G conditions. -
@bazzacollins But none of them are currently adding new 3G masts, let alone 2G. We're talking new rather than existing infrastructure. -
@PaulOckenden They could be boosting signal on 2G equipment. Maybe agreeing more mast sharing to improve coverage? - 8 more replies
