Crude oil prices down 20% in last six months. So why haven't petrol prices decreased anywhere near that much?

@bazzacollins@mikejjennings Well, the effect of tax on the price at the pump is significant. Makes prices much less mobile. -
@sbisson@mikejjennings True, although it seems to go up much quicker when wholesale prices rise. Maybe I just notice rises more than falls.

@bazzacollins Oil price down: petrol lags, because oil was already bought! Oil price up: petrol up immediately because reasons. -
@CraigGrannell As others have explained, the vast proportion of tax paid on petrol makes prices less elastic, too.
