I'm astonished by number of big brands who buy Google ads on their own name, even though they're bound to rank top organically. Defensive?
@jackschofield @timanderson Maybe I'm being naive, but I'd have thought people would seek out the brand they're looking for.

@bazzacollins@jackschofield yes, but you get things like this http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-2533771/Copycat-websites-I-paid-49-extra-renew-daughters-passport.html … (since amended by Google because of public fuss) -
@timanderson@jackschofield Yes, but that's for searches on generic terms such as "passport renewal", not a brand name. -
@timanderson@jackschofield I can completely understand why Tesco wants to be top for searches on "supermarket"; less so "Tesco". -
@bazzacollins@jackschofield I have answered your question about why companies advertise on their own brand name http://bit.ly/1gOUtIv -
@timanderson@jackschofield Nice piece. And a nice racket for Google. Profit from the brand owner and the fraudsters. - End of conversation
