@bazzacollins I regularly have that problem when using my ext. drive for an extended period of time, such as when faffing with photos, etc.
Reboot always remounts the drive. It's like Windows forgets about it if it's not been used in an hour or two.

@Cynderness Suspect it's spinning down after being left idle for a while. Need to work out how to stop it!

@bazzacollins does the drive spin down on idle? Externally powered or USB? -
@neilharper Powered via USB hub. Suspect it's spinning down on idle. -
@bazzacollins Sounds like it. I have a Seagate one where the spin down time can be adjusted via a utility. Worth checking with manufacturer -
@bazzacollins ...or get something to write to it every 45 mins or so (copy file/delete file sort of script)... -
@neilharper Yes. V nervous of any automated script to access a hard disk, but will dig into utilities etc. Thanks. -
@bazzacollins I use this http://www.bvckup2.com/ and it's very good. It's a backup tool, but would suit what you want to do too.

@bazzacollins "allow windows to switch off this device to save power" in device manager? Or does it not come back if you unplug and replug? -
@robjohn_c Not even seeing that option in Device Manager.
