I'm not much of an audiophile, but even I'm getting an itchy credit card for this: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/387565/vinyl-quality-ponoplayer-smashes-past-funding-target …

@bazzacollins that said I love uncompressed audio, you just need some headphones to really make the most of it though

@projiuk Indeed. Will be interesting to see if the hardware makes a difference.

@bazzacollins I'm sure it'll make "some" difference, though the source material is the largest difference maker

@bazzacollins have to say it does interest me! All my music I use for mixing with is a min of 256 AAC, which is fine for most PA setups

@jonhoneyball Would be interested to hear your views when you get one. Some questioning Pono's claims: http://www.mcelhearn.com/whats-the-point-of-pono-and-why-are-ponos-numbers-bogus/ …

@bazzacollins lots of ignorance in that piece. e.g. the two ports — one could be higher current for headphones with low impedance.

@jonhoneyball Will bow to your superior knowledge. My idea of high-end audio is leaving my iPod on the top shelf.

@bazzacollins though in reality it’s no better than an iPod Classic: http://www.mcelhearn.com/whats-the-point-of-pono-and-why-are-ponos-numbers-bogus/ …

@smithsocksimon Interesting, although it depends on the audio components used inside the device, too.

@bazzacollins absolutely, plus the recording fidelity, the headphones or speakers and the acoustics—too many variables.

@ElYammers @bazzacollins I've just got a review sample of a Wolfson Audio add-on for the Pi, which should let me make a PonoPlayer for <£50.
