if MS is serious about stopping Windows XP use, it should offer a basic home use Win8.1 license for free.
@jonhoneyball It's not home users who are the problem, it's businesses

@bazzacollins its a split arena. it does include a lot of home users. -
@jonhoneyball@bazzacollins Home users with old Pentium PCs who haven't paid Microsoft a cent for 7-10 years? Customers worth keeping? -
@jackschofield@bazzacollins does ms want any money from them in the future? -
@jonhoneyball@bazzacollins How would a free Windows 8 get any money from them? More than would be lost by giving it to real buyers as well? -
@jackschofield@bazzacollins it wouldn’t — but it would open doors in future -
@jonhoneyball@bazzacollins I think the only way Microsoft will get money from them is if they buy a new PC. So why give them W8 free? -
@jackschofield@jonhoneyball@bazzacollins Also there is no direct path from XP to 8.1. Which would cause more problems. -
@sbisson@jackschofield@jonhoneyball Also becomes an incentive to hang on if there’s a free upgrade at the end. Wrong message. - 1 more reply
