@bazzacollins 1st-gen iPad was ‘cut loose’ long ago—iOS *6* is not compatible (most likely due to a lack of RAM).

@craiggrannell Whoops. Will correct now. Thanks, Craig. -
@bazzacollins@CraigGrannell Also, going by rough measure of iPad’s existence and iOS update frequency, isn’t three years a fairer estimate? -
@alstonebridge Based on what? -
@bazzacollins 2.5 years already since iPad 2’s release. It’s getting iOS 7 support, minus some non-essential features. Takes it to at least… -
@alstonebridge But performance is always woeful on iOS 6. True multitasking and other iOS 7 graphics whizz isn't going to improve it. -
@bazzacollins Always? REALLY? I have an iPad 3 here that’s running the same install of iOS 6 for many months and it’s going fine. -
@alstonebridge Sorry, I didn't mean "always", meant "already".

@bazzacollins My wife has a 1st gen iPad. Battery life still superb. No real speed issues. She doesn't use many apps. Wifi crap tho. -
@fortyrunner It's hard to pin down the problem, but I suspect it's like Windows of old. A clean install once in a while clears it.

@bazzacollins - Mines about same age as yours and still going strong but agree two years on avge is unacceptable. I'd expect 3 to 5 ideally -
@garymhough Yes, two years is too tight.

@bazzacollins have the iPad 1, as it worked fine out of the box. I know more features = more resources, but 18m in my case felt a rip off. -
@MarkTechArc72 Quoted you in my piece today. Thanks for the feedback. -
@bazzacollins Barry no problems. I am poss in same boat with iPad mini, but at £270, this is a far better value proposition over 2 years.

@bazzacollins Do you run the Times/Sunday Times app? A major source of performance issues for iPad1,2 & 3. Check memory usage for hogs. -
@rogerweir I do, yes, and you're right. But I wiped it off a couple of months back, and things weren't much better. -
@bazzacollins Oh. I have a 3 and it’s fine, except for The Times. I am careful with apps and notifications, I try to keep 5GB of 64GB free.

@bazzacollins From my experience, iOS 5 killed iPad 1. No amount of factory reset helped. If I could have downgraded to iOS 3/4 would still.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
