Google Docs really does not rub along merrily with DOCX files.
@jackschofield Seems OK with ordinary .doc files, which is odd given that's not an open standard.

@bazzacollins In any case, open standards are pretty much worthless without interoperability tests and commitments. That's why Wi-Fi works. -
@jackschofield You want to read our 802.11n router tests in the latest issue.

@bazzacollins Really? Try one with double columns, footnotes, a special typeface heading, embedded photos, and footnotes ;-) -
@jackschofield Well, yes. It was a given that anything in the way of formatting would become a dog's breakfast:) -
@bazzacollins ;-) Real question is, how does@Google get away with it? Has no one but me ever Googled "hate google docs"? -
@jackschofield@bazzacollins I love Google Docs, but then I use it as a glorified Notepad in combination with Markdown. -
@mbrit@jackschofield I think that's the key - most people don't use it as anything but a basic (collaborative) text editor. -
@bazzacollins@jackschofield I'm trying to use it to write a book. The collaboration bit *sort* of works.
