@bazzacollins They did pretty much say this in their statement Barry. Doesn't mean they should just accept any punishment from the FA.

@davebrannan They could have punished him themselves (fine is no punishment for a footballer). They saw no need to. FA rightly acted. -
@bazzacollins Noone's saying he shouldn't be banned, and you don't know Liverpool's plans. But if its so serious why not ban Defoe? -
@davebrannan They've had four days to impose a punishment. Utd acted immediately after Cantona. -
@bazzacollins Good point, but only if it's made public and the FA extended Cantona ban anyway. FA's shouldn't take club action into account.

@bazzacollins No one's saying he shouldn't have been banned but 10 games is disproportionate. It's trial by (hysterical) media -
@lefthandandy Disproportionate to what? -
@bazzacollins Paul Davis breaking opponent's jaw or Thatcher elbowing Mendes (both 8 game bans). Does attempted bite really deserve more? -
@lefthandandy They were 20/10 years ago! Game moves on. -
@bazzacollins Does it? Serious assault (which leaves an opponent injured) is the same no matter what the era. Not the case for Suarez
