They will be fine. I am glad Epic made this decision. The 30% Google, Apple and Amazon charge for basicallly doing nothing is almost criminal.
-
“Basically doing nothing” except for giving you a platform to reach hundreds of millions of people and also taking care of payment processing, server hosting, etc. But okay sure, “nothing”. Why do you think google charges a lot to advertise? because it’s an enormous platform.
-
If you priced out what they actually do based on real costs it would be nominal. If you make a $100 on Google Play because of one app, do you really think it costs $30 to host a file less than 50 mb? Do you think payment processing costs anywhere near $30 to process $100?

Epic's launcher and game portal d/l center is pretty legit, totally safe
-
I think the problem is more so kids ending up on a fake website and downloading harmful files.
-
Ironically it's Google's search results that would cause that to happen with them promoting scams so often above the actual site. Epic isn't controlling the search results.

You and I know that, but 8 year olds might not. This reminds me of the crypto space where even smartish investors get scammed on fake exchanges everyday through Google search results or a minor misspelling in URL.

Are you arguing with yourself?

Sure, but if you made a list of the top 5 priorities for Epic’s business growth, “making sure kids tablets are secure” wouldn’t be on it. And I’m OK with that. That was never what Epic promised me as a dad.

How would an installer from epic put their devices at risk. So long as it’s not a fake they are fine.
-
Kids be sniffing condoms tho. I’m sure someone will create a fake apk and load the tablet with adware/harmful stuff. Play protect is good though.
-
Fake APKs have probably existed since the day the game dropped on console
-
But still now that the news is that an official release came out people are gonna make even more fake stuff

Maybe Google shouldn’t charge 30%. Google made the poor decision a long time ago
