Why are they allowed to advertise new cars for, say, £200 per month? They're never £200 per month. They're £200 per month + a massive up-front deposit + a huge final payment.

I thought exactly the same when I saw that ad (presumably the same one) recently. Gives a totally false impression. But I guess that's just life these days.

ASA about as much use as a petrol cap on a Tesla.

Yep, it's a massive con to tempt people to buy something on finance they can't afford.

The huge final payment is optional – the deposit is mandatory

Only optional if you're giving the car back.

If you get PCH (personal contract hire) rather than PCP or HP or other purchase loan then it really is 200 a month, no deposit, no final fee but you must give it back at the end as you never own it. I'm on my second car this way and would recommend it.

Have to say, as someone getting their next car from a leasing company, it's definitely a case of the onus being on the company to be transparent about all costs. Thankfully, the company I'm dealing with has been - absolutely.
