There are positive signs. The set-pieces were magnificent. The side is young.
But we just pissed away possibly the best chance a generation will have to reach a #WorldCup Final

We papered over huge cracks. Hoddle's side of 98 and Sven's 2002 squad were both vastly superior to this
#ENG Don't think this is a turning point. Keep improving. Keep seeking to improve.Show this thread

So what was the difference between 2018 & 1990?
-
Not a lot. The 90 side progressed from a weak group, and struggled past two average teams to the semis. They didn't even qualify four years later.
-
But surely the luck of the draw takes most teams to the final. Think expectation was low especially after recent years. Played good basic football that lacked that killer instinct to take us further
-
Not really. France just beat Uruguay, Argentina and Belgium. Germany beat France, Brazil and Argentina to win last time. You normally have to beat the best to make the Final.
-
And Croatia beat who again? Big teams underperformed, some didn't even make it. You have to beat what's in front of you to progress to which we done up until tonight. Sometimes it doesn't matter how you get there
-
Germany beat Paraguay, USA and South Korea to reach the final in 2002

What puzzled me is why were the young England players looking exhausted after an hour while the supposedly older Croatians who had a harder run up to the game were still full of running?
