Suspect that they kept hold of Carphone Warehouse customers for a lot longer than the retail... to track when their mobile subs were up to sell them something else. They might find themselves on a sticky wicket with the credit card records though..

That was my thought too - pretty much every payment provider allows you to just hold a token for a users card for repeat transactions, no need to hold the card details themselves. Unless it was their payment provider that was breached (or they are acting as their own).
