The @Baddiel Desert Island Discs is one of the best I've listened to. I've said it before, but Kirsty Young is peerless at that job. It's a ridiculously tricky skill to get people to open up and yet not flinch from tricky questions. She does it with great skill.

I think she's great too, cos her interviews put the spotlight on person she's talking to. She's not thinking about herself. Which isn't always the case with interviewers!

Most revealing Desert Island Discs I’ve heard: Tom Jones, Dustin Hoffman, Tony Adams, Rolf Harris (yes), and a swinging 60s social queen who would pass out at Smithfield market at 6am after...er...never mind

There’s a massive archive of them on iPlayer or listen again. I have listened to quite a few. I was impressed how Kirsty coped with the often tricky Morrissey.....

It was a good one. The one that sticks in my mind most was Betty Driver (Corrie's Betty) which was astonishing. The awful abuse she suffered along with her sister from her mother told with such humour & an utter lack of self pity was itself heartbreaking. An incredible lady.

Couldn't agree more and she's been at that standard from day 1 .She might deny it but she didn't seem to need time to build to such a brilliant level.

Do you think so? In the beginning I found her frustrating. She had questions she would plough through without responding to answers eg one DiDer said of something 'it was the 2nd best experience of my life' - Kirsty 'so next disc'. Argh what was the first? She is good now though

I agree with you re Kirsty Young. She’s great. I’m not sure quite what the fuss re Baddiel is though. His song choices were either shite or soppy. And I say this as a fan of his and I’ve seen and enjoyed his show. Not sure if you’ve noticed though, he eats way too many eggs.
