Nazi uniforms look stylish in movies but they were 1) wildly impractical, and 2) not that well fitted in reality.

If you look at pictures of Hitler, the ONE GUY you'd expect to be well dressed in Nazi Germany if anyone was, his clothes are kind of a mess

That might seem irrelevant, given everything else about Hitler, but when people are romanticising the Nazi aesthetic, I don't think it is.

The Nazis weren't ordered and efficient like people say. The "science" performed in concentration camps was a useless mess.

It bothers me how Nazi science is treated in fiction as something mysterious and profound. Most of it was just foolishness and torture.

Yep. Most of it is utterly fucking useless. No control. Very little real reason to it at all. Lots of superstition.https://twitter.com/MichaelPallante/status/780163951409569793 …

The fact that a few slivers of usable data created an ethical dilemma for legit scientists gets over-focused upon.

This exactly. Nazi science wasn't a ruthless search for truth, it was just ruthless.https://twitter.com/MichaelPallante/status/780164054748770304 …

The narrative sounds like, "Brutal but effective..." when it was really just, "Brutal and more brutal."

Nazism was and is inherently ahistorical and unscientific. You can't be efficient with a world view like that.

BEAR WITH ME HERE, because this is possibly going to sound heartless: The Holocaust was a massive waste of resources.

That's not what we usually focus on, and it well shouldn't be. But if we're going to talk about Nazis and efficiency, it's highly relevant.

You can't say "they were brutal but efficient" when they spent enormous amounts of money and manpower on pointless brutality.

Supposedly his generals opposed the concentration camps because they took resources away from the German military.

It might seem wasteful if their only goal was military domination. It wasn't. Exterminating Jews was their express goal.
