We all know the media has certain pre-set narratives into which stories get filled. Missing White Girl. Young Black Man Shot by Cops. Swing State Diner Opinion. Poor Hispanic Migrant. Hypocritical Lech Preacher. Mentally Traumatized Veteran. Sexy Teacher Sleeps w/Teen Boy. etc.

Some stories take off because they fit those narratives & add individually compelling details. Some get pushed even when the details undermine the narrative. But yes, pre-set narratives in many areas are an easier sell to newspaper/TV editoris than stories that are not familiar.

And yes, every one of those narratives creates a picture of the world that is not, statistically speaking, accurate.
