I think Gen X culture has a lot of in common with that generation. The big difference is 20 years after their 9/11, they were firmly in power and not getting roadblocked by Boomers pushing 80 before getting swamped by Millennials. Give

Already a two-time American League MVP, seven-time All Star & five-time World Series champion, 27 year-old NY Yankee Joe DiMaggio was arguably the most famous American of his generation on Dec 7, 1941. He enlisted in the Army in February 1943.

Bob Feller (best pitcher in the AL) & Hank Greenberg (2-time MPV) were already in the service by then, too. And Ted Williams (who hit .406 in 1941, won the Triple Crown in 1942) also entered in 1943.
